Rostron Carlyle is pleased to announce the appointment and promotion of Levi Smouha, Rozélle Bothma, Michael Finch, and Alan Phillips based in our Brisbane office.

Levi Smouha – Partner

Levi joined Rostron Carlyle in August 2016 as our Head of Insolvency. He has significant experience in advising insolvency practitioners, creditors and company directors in navigating all areas of insolvency.

Admitted as a solicitor in 2005, Levi has spent most of his career working in a leading national law firm in the areas of commercial disputes and insolvency. Earlier in his career, Levi spent a year working for a large law firm in London and also worked for a year in Japan.

Levi has worked on a wide range of external administrations involving various industries such as construction, telecommunication services, financial services, food services, hospitality, transport and retail. Levi has acted in winding up and bankruptcy proceedings, as well as various insolvency related Court applications, public examination hearings, voidable transaction claims and insolvent trading claims in the State and Federal Courts.

Levi brings a strategic, detailed and practical approach to reach commercial outcomes in providing insolvency advice and resolving disputes.

Rozélle Bothma – Associate

Rozélle manages the Corporate Recoveries and Debt Collection team within Rostron Carlyle’s Litigation Practice under the supervision of the Litigation Partner, Paul Rojas.

Prior to her admission to the legal profession, Rozélle worked in Corporate Services, which has equipped her with a sound understanding of the relationship between commerciality and the law.

Rozélle’s current areas of specialty include cross-jurisdictional debt recovery, insolvency, and contractual disputes. Rozélle has conducted and assisted in contested litigation matters in most Local, State and Federal jurisdictions for a wide range of clients. She frequently represents medium to large private companies, mercantile agents, government bodies and agencies and insolvency practitioners. Her longest standing clients include some of Australia’s most popular household names, such as DuluxGroup Australia, Repco and Southern Cross Austereo.

Rozélle works closely with each of her clients and is an approachable, rational and confident advocate.

Michael Finch – Associate

Michael is a commercial litigation lawyer based in Rostron Carlyle’s Brisbane office. His professional interests are in commercial dispute resolution with a focus on the construction industry.

Having appeared in both State and Federal Courts as well as having been involved in a number of alternative dispute resolution processes, Michael takes a confident and pragmatic approach to minimising the impact of litigation on his clients.

Alan Phillips – Associate

Alan was admitted in mid-2015. Alan’s education includes a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the Queensland University of Technology. His academic excellence has also seen him represent his university in Europe as part of an advocacy competition.

Alan has worked in a top tier commercial firm prior to joining Rostron Carlyle specialising in criminal law which has given him broad experience applicable to criminal confiscations matters. He now practices exclusively in criminal defense law which includes serious and organized crime. Alan specialises in major drug matters including importation of commercial quantities of dangerous drugs, drug trafficking, and homicide offences.

Alan has represented clients in Queensland and New South Wales with great success and has represented clients in coercive hearings specifically at the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) and at the Australian Crime and Corruption Commission (ACCC).

Alan also has extensive experience appearing in the magistrates court, district court and supreme court for bail applications, trials, and sentences.
